Got a bread machine? Well, for this recipe you’re gonna need one. Cat Can Cook is all about the easy recipes, so if  you had to make these beauties entirely by hand, well that wouldn’t be very easy now would it? The bread machine cuts the work of the buns in half, by doing all of the kneading for you. Let’s face it, kneading bread dough is hard work, so this eliminates that tedious process and makes perfect smooth and delicious dough. Now, that’s not to say that you can’t make these without a bread machine – of course you can. If that is the case, roll up your sleeves and get ready to work. At least you’ll have earned a few extra calories by the time they’re ready! For this recipe however, I am only going to offer the bread machine method. If making traditional bread by hand, there are tons of recipes on line, so find a favourite and work with that one 🙂

For those with a bread maker, grab your favourite bread maker buns recipe, and get ready to make fabulous cinnamon buns!

Easy Cinnamon Buns

Bread Dough (basic dough recipe for your bread machine – check the book it came with)

Topping:

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 scant cup brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon

Icing:

4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups icing sugar
1 1/2 tsp milk

Place ingredients to make your basic dough in your bread machine. Set for dough cycle. After complete on dough cycle (normally about 2 hours) remove from machine and roll out to 17×10″ rectangle on a floured surface.

Next, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread softened butter over dough and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over top. Roll the dough tightly length-wise, pinching edges closed when completely rolled. Slice rolled dough into 1/2″ slices and place into greased cookie sheet with a little space between them as they will expand. Let rise in a warm location until doubled in size (about 30 minutes) Bake at 350 ° for 15-20 minutes, until golden. Do not overbake.

As soon as the buns are out of the oven, spread with cream cheese icing. Enjoy them while they’re hot!

Note – they are best hot, so if eating later, microwave a bun for a few seconds to warm it up first 😉
