While I’ve never really been a huge fan of fictional novels, preferring reference, particularily parenting books in the past little while, I discovered some fun novels this summer that I absolutley adored.
I was on limited activity for much of the summer, due to the threat of preterm labour, and so I picked up “Confessions of a Shopaholic” by Sophie Kinsella after hearing much about this novel from friends. Much to my delight, this book was fun, fluffy and a quick read…so much so that I whipped through the next four in the series within a matter of weeks. I also read her other two novels “The Undomestic Goddess” and “Can You Keep a Secret.” Both were enjoyable as well.
I also recently learned that Sophie Kinsella also writes under her other name Madeline Wickham. I think that may actually be her real name, and Kinsella is her pen name, although I am not entirely sure.
While I wouldn’t liken these novels to any great fictional literary masterpiece, they were fun, and a great “snuggle up in bed” type read!
Oh yeah… I’d call her my fave author! So much so that last week I got my mom to buy Can You Keep A Secret? for me as a birthday gift. I’d been waiting forever to get it in paperback size.
Last night, while switching to different bookshelves, I discovered that not only did I already own the book, but that I’d also already read it. How I forgot is beyond me!
Now Undomestic Goddess needs to shrink to mass paperback to add to my collection. In the meantime, Catherine, might I suggest: Joanna Fluke. She writes light mystery novels with recipes included (The heroine/sleuth owns a bakery). Or, Angels & Demons, also a good read.
